Sarah Siembida is a poet, an educator, and the author of "Memoirs Of An Indian: A Guide To Surviving Colonialism." Sarah was appointed as Inaugural Poet Laureate of Smart Waterloo Region in 2022.

Sarah Siembida is a Two-Spirit Indigiqueer storyteller born and raised in the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe, Huadenosaunee, and Neutral (AKA Kitchener, ON, Canada). They are born from English, Finnish, Kānaka Maoli, Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw, and Polish descent; Belonging to the ‘Na̱mg̱is, ‘Nakwaxda’xw, dłu Kwagu’ł Tribes in the Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw Territories of Northern Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada.

Passionate about preserving Culture and Ancestral Territories, Sarah spends much of their free time on the land and by the waters learning from the Ancestors as well as current land and water caretakers/defenders. They hope by telling their story of the Urban Indigenous experience, it breaks down the stigmas of marginalized groups as a whole and encourages all to walk in their truth.

Memoirs of an Indian

Memoirs Of An Indian: A Guide To Surviving Colonialism Sarah Siembida's debut book. The book is meant to inspire youth to become cycle breakers. Our goal is for Memoirs Of An Indian: A Guide To Surviving Colonialism to become readily available and used as a resource for innovation.

The book is the first in the "Memoirs of An Indian" series. Books are $20 per copy and personalized/signed copies are available.
